PLOT: Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence) has been assigned a desk job as FBI PR officer since he wanted to be with his wife Sherry Pierce during her delivery. An incident occurs in Orange County where his former partner is killed while undercover. His partner was doing surveillance on a former Military Intelligence Specialist by the name of Tom Fuller (Mark Moses) who had retired and works for a private corporation. The FBI had reasons to believe that he was developing a virus which will create back doors into data stored on FBI/NSA's computers. Turner, saddened by this incident, asks his chief permission to go to Orange County, but is refused.

PLOT: FBI agent Malcolm Turner (Lawrence) is known best for being a master of disguise. His latest assignment sends him and his partner John Maxwell (Paul Giamatti) to a small-town Cartersville, Georgia where he's assigned to trap a brutal bank robber and recent federal prison escapee Lester Vesco (Terrence Howard) who they suspect he will be coming down to visit his ex-girlfriend Sherry Pierce (Nia Long) and her son, Trent (Jascha Washington). Malcolm sets up a stakeout across from the home of an oversized Southern matriarch named Hattie Mae Pierce, aka Big Momma (Ella Mitchell), who's about to be visited by Sherry.

PLOT: The film begins with Eminem's character Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith, Jr. at a local rap battle MCd by Smith's friend David "Future" Porter. He has moved back north of 8 Mile to the rundown trailer home in Warren of his alcoholic mother Stephanie (Kim Basinger), his much-younger sister Lily (Chloe Greenfield), and his mother's abusive live-in boyfriend Greg (Michael Shannon). Jimmy is focused on getting his music career started, but he seems unable to catch a break. Just prior to the events of the film, he ends a relationship with his girlfriend Janeane (Taryn Manning), and during the film, begins a new relationship with Alex (Brittany Murphy).
